Paddy Power odds for Messi and Ronaldo transfers

The rumours concerning possible change of club for Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are returning on every transfer window. Bookmaker Paddy Power presented the odds for their possible transfers.

Where will Messi go?

The argentinian genius came to the Catalan club in 2000 at the age of 13. Since then, he was consistently building his legend as the greatest footballer to wear the shirt of the Blaugrana. And even though he claims he is happy in Barcelona, one should not exclude his departure from the club. Especially because there are a lot of teams who would love to sign the player.

Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich, during the summer of 2016 supposedly offered the Catalan club over 100 million pounds for the player and the negotiations between him and Messi’s agents were at a very advanced stage. The player himself was offered a weekly wage of 800 000 pounds, which stood for 50 milion pounds a year. Barcelona quickly denied any rumors and informed that their calculations of Messi’s price proved he would possibly cost approximately 600 milion euro (250 milion euro minimum fee release clause + huge tax for Spanish Football Association + few years of contract for the argentinian ).

Apart from Chelsea interest, Sheikh owners of Paris Saint Germain also wanted the star of Barcelona in their team (Tabloids reported that footballer bought a large property in the capital of France). As did those of Manchester City who apart from large sums of money lured the player with the possibility of working with Josep Guardiola once again. Another potential buyer was David Beckham, recently a co-owner of Miami-based football club that will compete in MLS.

The most popular rumour is that Messi will play in Barcelona till the end of his contract in 2018 and after the World Cup in Russia he will return to Argentina to finish his career in Newell’s Old Boys, a club from his hometown Rosario in which he begun his football journey.

Will Cristiano Ronaldo stay in Madrid till the end of his contract?

Two European giants are mentioned the most times when talking about the transfer of the portugal player from Real Madrid: already mentioned Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United. As it is the case with Messi, the sheikhs from the French capital club lure the player with large amount of money and the prospect of living in the fashion capital of the world, which is so close to the heart of the player. From the other hand the Red Devils believe that with Ronaldo’s help Jose Mourinho could rebuild the power of the club and restore it to glory it lost few years ago after the loss of CR7 to Real Madrid.

Current contract commits the portuguese to Madrid side to 2018 and guarantee him the sum of 21 milion euro per year (net income!), hovewer there are already advanced negotiations concerned with the renewal of the conract for two more seasons. Ronaldo would be 35 by then and his chances for spectacular transfer to the top European club would considerably deminish. It seems that in that age his only options would be returning to his first club, Sporting Lisbon CP or football retirement in China or MLS.
