Ukraine to legalize betting with a new bill
Sports betting and gambling as a whole is really being frowned upon and has been outlawed in many parts of Eastern Europe. The mostly shadow Ukrainian betting markets might soon be legalized according to a new President.
Once an uncontrolled industry, gambling was banned by the Ukrainian government in 2009 after a horrific shootout in one of the biggest casinos that took the lives of nine people.
Since then the industry was completely outlawed but kept operating mainly in a shadow. The complete prohibition of betting was made impossible as some top online bookmakers like Betfair and William Hill allowed Ukrainian clients to place a wager.
The new Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi in one of his latest speeches announced that he will force the government to pass a new gambling bill by December 2020.
