Whose the top 2014 World Cup goalscorer? Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar or Diego Costa?

Top goalscorer - from Brazil, Argentina, Germany or Beligum....

If we want to elect the Championship’s top scorer we need to take into account few aspects: the potential of team which we are playing against (we know the opponents in the group), how far can we got - meaning the system of matches, susceptibility to injuries, if there are some good scorers in a team, if yes the percentage of average number of goal scored by a team goes down.

The best chances according to bookmakers has Lionel Messi 8,50. In fact, teams from Argentina, Bosnia and Harzegovina, Iran and Nigeria seem to be easy to overcome, and a chance of scoring a goal is quite big. However, the team from Argentina  is full of fantastic strikers, but will the ace of Barcelona score the most? Kun Aguero (odds 17,00) or Gonzalo Higuain (21,00) are great scorers, and we have all seen that Messi lately in Barcelona’s matches was not shining. Due to the height of the odds I would rather bet on Kun or Gonzalo.

The main candidate to become a Champion, Brazil, does not have difficult opponents as well, so the fans will be expecting high win of their idols. Although, Neymar plays average in Barcelona, bookmakers give him good chance to obtain a title of the top scorer (odds 13,00). I am not a lover of  Brazilian’s talent and in my opinion there are better scorers, however he will probably be among top ones.

To my mind an interesting choice to bet on could be Lukaku (Belgium), odds at 34,00, who has scored 15 goals this season for Everton or Edinson Cavani from Uruguay, odds at 41,00. Because of Suarez’s health problem Cavani together with Diego Forlan can be the main links in the attack. Even if Souraz plays he will not probably return to his top form, moreover, everyone knows that this player is excellent in passing the ball, because of that defenders concentrate on him and other players are scoring.

Magnificent play of Belgian national team speak for Lulaku, it is able to advance far and score many goals... Moreover, Lulaku is a very good striker, not present in media much, which after loan from Chelsea to Everton inserted well in The Toffees team. Surely, Cirstiano Ronalo as alway will be a great opponent because the Portugal’s play relies on him and it has a great importance in the number of goals scored. Anyway, it’s hard to pick the best world player from this group... odds at 13 worth considering.

Betting on the top scorer is quite risky. An example might be the 1994 World Cup and 6 goals of Russian player - Oleg Salenko - 5 in one match against Cameroon and one against Sweden. Certainly, he was not bookmakers’ front runner and the odds were not high as well. At the last World Cup in South Africa 4 players score 5 goals each   (Thomas Muller, David Villa, Wesley Sneijder, Diego Forlan). At present Championship statistically 6-7 goals should be enough for the “Top Goalscorer”.
