Exclusive interview with one of the best tipsters in the world

Read an interview with professional tipster and discover some interesting facts about sports betting.

We’ve been trying to get to him for over a year. Thanks to few connections with people from bookmaking business we were able to convince the tipster to answer few questions, which I hope will help or inspire potential or beginning players. Unfortunately the tipster did not agree to reveal his real data because in the past he had been writing tips for one of the famous blogs, and currently he takes care of business of private investors. Let’s call him X_BET_TR.

  1. When has your adventure with sports betting started?
I have been betting for over 10 years, however I have been in the business seriously since 7. Beginnings were hard, I used to play on many matches without any analysis, I used to play on favourites, and few or even over ten matches on one coupon. The result was obvious - I kept on losing everything… Later I used to, spent hundreds of hours searching for “special occasion” especially in niche leagues where bookmakers often make mistakes and base on historic statistics.

  2. Is there a website on which your tips can be bought?
Before I used to write tips in a known blog. I have also won few tipsters contents organised by known bookmaking pages. Currently I limit myself only to rich customers. I am not planning to open my own website but who knows what future will bring.

  3. What capital do you manage and how much do you earn? :)
Sports betting in the web is a large business not only for bookmakers but also for professional tipsters. Good tipster earns around 20 000 - 25 000 USD a month or even more. It all depends on the sport discipline he is good in and what amount of money can you bet at a bookmaker. Wanted are MLB, NBA, NFL or English league tipsters. Although it is hard to obtain a yield of 20%-30% in a long run, but it is possible to play on large amounts which exceed 10 000 USD on a bet. Going back to the first part of the question I am managing a capital of over 1 000 000 USD.

  4. Ohh that is quite large amount of money… what sports do you play and do you tip alone or with a group of tipsters?
Of course for some it is rather a big amount of money and for others not at all. There are investors which treat this as an alternative way of investing, from which they expect to get money back same as from hedge funds. As I’ve mentioned it is a giant business and there are some good players especially on Asian market.
Most of the times I try to tip on my own, however, I exchange info with other players. I use tips which I receive form excellent players which I have known for a long time and which yield is not lower than 25%. Tipsters world is very hermetic and rarely one of them wants to step out of closed forum.

  5. How does your day look like, how much time do you spend on analysing?
It is my job therefore not shorter than 7-8 hours per day, sometimes even more than 12 hours. I analyse leagues which interest me, I exchange my observations with experts, I search for all the essential information, which may increase the chance of win even by 2-3%. I specialize in one sport. In my opinion deep analysis brings profit in a long time run, luck is not taken into consideration. For obvious reasons I won’t tell what sports discipline I bet on and in which one I feel good.

  6. Too bad that you don’t want to reveal the sport which you tip, or at least maybe you could tell us leagues or sports on which it is worth to bet?
It all depends on what you are good at, the dyscypline is of secondary importance. I know an excellent tennis tipster as well as NHL or horse racing.  Although on “niche” sports you are definitely able to make a higher yield even though limits are lower.
In general, if you obtain a yield at +15-20% it is a very good result. Excellent at 30-40%.

  7. Do you bet on single bets or combo bets?
Most of professional tipsters definitely prefer singles and I also belong to this group. Although I know few incredibly good tipsters which bet on doubles, however their part in general number of bet tickets does not exceed 20%. A friend of mine, tipster from Europe, who specializes in handball and basketball says that there are matches on which it is worth to bet on combo. In my opinion singles are easier to control in a given situation.

  8. Do you watch all the matches you bet on?
Most of them yes, that’s why I travel the world a lot to be able to see matches which are not transmitted, but only available live. Sometimes you are able to close a bet before a bookmaker does, moreover you see whole situation which helps you not only react quickly, but also to see how a bookmaker reacts in a given situation. Where human factor is decisive one, there are mistakes, and it is important to take advantage of them very quickly.

  9. Tickets, hotels, going for matches live are rather expensive, is it possible to make money without it?
Of course, not all the tipsters watch matches live. I only said what I do and how I am looking for an advantage over a bookmaker besides the basic rules. If you are playing for your own needs with lower stakes and you do not manage large amount of money you should be directed by what you have been until now.

  10. So what are the basic rules which a beginning tipster should take into consideration?
In the times of Internet practically everyone has access to all historical data, injuries, weather conditions or social networks. If you think that you will be able to predict the result by basing only on history and statistics from previous matches, or current shape of players it will not be enough. Each bookmaker has such information and on the basis of them he makes odds. Although being able to read statistics well gives you up to 5% of advantage over bookmaker, however, with bookmaker’s margin that’s not enough. Main factor is the speed of finding information, playing on feelings, although often quality of the favourite and resistance to emotion are overrated. Unfortunately most of the players loses happen because of psyche and not being able to cope with few lost tickets in a row, they start to play only to get the lost money back. Bad emotions usually lead to financial losses, that’s why a good tipster may be recognized by the way he is tipping after few losses, not only by the way he tips when everything is going in a good direction. If for example a tipster starts to play on higher stakes or to bet more and more it means that he wants to make money on it.

  11. On how many matches do you play a month?
There is no given number however, I am able to find about 20 matches in the month. Sometimes I bet on 3 matches a day to later not bet on anything for the whole week.

  12. Now a question about bookmaker’s limits. Won’t a bookmaker block your account if you keep on winning large amounts of money?
If you continue to win on regular bases and play mainly on niche leagues or sports you will probably be limited soon. There are few bookmakers in the world mainly in Asia which can accept quite large amount of money. Of course I am talking about amounts such as $10 000 per un bet and in some case $100 000 per un bet. There are also events on which it is hard to bet $1000-$2000, and bookmakers may get you soon…

  13. What betting system do you prefer?
Mainly tipsters base on the system 1/10 to 10/10. I prefer more developed structure and play also with “halves” so for instance 3.5/10. In my opinion this system is able to assess the stake more efficiently.

Thank you for information and we wish you success!
