Fixed matches. Is a tipster able to earn money on them?

Once in a while the world revolves around information about suspected dishonesty in sports betting.

Without a doubt betting is a powerful branch of industry, and revenues of bookmakers exceed 500 billion per year, and unfortunately some people want to earn some extra money in a manner which is inconsistent with the law. Each day we have thousands of possibilities to bet on. Read an interview with professional tipster and discover some interesting facts about sports betting. No one is able to control and verify such great number of sports event. For example how to check if someone committed a foul for a yellow card? Most vulnerable to corruption are low-level tournaments, friendly matches or niche sports. While it is a fact, that for such matches large sums are not accepted and they are easier to find than hit matches, but playing at several bookmakers for smaller amounts of money and additionally by several substituted people reduces fraud detection. Unfortunately, specialized professional gangs operate more dynamically than we suppose, players are the ones who suffer the most from it, because often despite vast knowledge, are very surprised by the incredible results. Of course not every surprise or someone putting big money on match can be treated as fix. In that case, the question how to reduce potential losses and how to recognize suspicious matches arises.

  • Lock of odds by a bookmaker - bookmaker does not block odds without a reason. This is usually done in situations where "someone" or a group of people bets suspiciously big amounts of money, especially in a short period of time.
  • Incredibly high lines - eg. Two days before a match for over 2.5 goals odds were at 1.85, a day later odds fell to 1.50 and before the match or during it odds dropped to 1.30. Could a bookmaker be mistaken as much while setting his first odds? It is unlikely and it looks more like a "fixed match" although it does not have to be like that. If a group tipsters is playing for odds decline and seeking matches with drastically falling odds. If the other players join such a tactic odds fall down dramatically even though a match is not "fixed".
  • The question is whether to play in such case with the market or against it? Where is the logic, and where the panic?
  • Facebook groups and so called "fixes" - If a match would be really fixed would anyone put such information on the web? Every day we read on forums or facebook about alleged fixes matches in sports. Most of them do not come true in the final result, but they work on our imagination. In particular, you have to consider the so-called twists for instance team B is winning to break to, in the end, lose the whole game, or vice versa. For such tips odds are high and fluctuate from 10,00-40,00 which is a tempting target for scammers.
  • Matches of a higher risk - not from today, it is known that there are leagues, friendly matches, insignificant cup matches where honesty may be questionable. Some like such meetings because of the considerable fluctuations of odds, but for professionals who rely on statistics such matches are better to obey.
  • End of season - almost every year we see surprising results when the season ends, which are important in the system table. We do not know the relationship between the clubs, players ecc. In addition, the team from the middle of the table can just let go and treat the match only as a sparring duel. At the time, I try to focus on the teams which are fighting for "something"..

It is hard to expect that in the future, dishonesty in sports will be eliminated. Despite steady improvements in technology and a rapid acting anti-crime organization there are many irregularities that will never be discovered. Unfortunately honest players and betting companies suffer the most from it and probably it will remain this way...
